The Route

The route is a combination of gravel roads, tar roads and single track over two farms. The route consists of and outward leg and return leg over the same route, covering a total distance of 90 kilometres.

The route starts at Chelsea Instant Lawns in Kragga Kamma Road with some single track over the grassed area of Chelsea Instant Lawns. Tar road takes you past Lake Farm to the gravel road behind Homeleigh Farm. This gravel road is an steep incline up to Homeleigh Farm before it joins Kragga Kamma Road again. A short tar section takes you to Norm-Hudlin Trails. Here a single track section of +/- 4 kilometres is done on the trail before joining up with the tar road in Butterfield Road. From here tar and gravel sections takes you past Wyndomaine Tea Garden, Fairview Race Course and out to the railway bridge at Van Stadens Gorge where the turnaround point is. The same route is done on the back leg to the finish at Chelsea Instant Lawns

The route consists of:
               Gravel 23.59 km x2 = 47.18 km
               Tar 13.04 km x2 = 26.08 km
               Grass / single track 9.00 km x2 = 18.00 km (Chelsea Instant Lawns and Norm Hudlin Trails)

               Total distance = 45.63km x2 = 91.26 km

Logistics

Registration: Saturday 27 August 2011 14h00 to 17h00 at Chelsea Instant Lawns, Kragga Kamma Road, Theescombe

NO LATE REGISTRATION AT START ON SUNDAY MORNING OF THE RACE

Entry Fee:  R70 for single bicycles
R100 for tandems (one entry for you and your partner)

Day License:  A day license of R30 will have to be purchased if you are not a CSA Member or have a Full CSA Racing License.

Ladies - 1st (R300) 2nd (R200) 3rd (R100) 
Floating Trophies awarded to certain category riders

General Race Rules:
- Race starts at 07h30 You need to be at start line 15 minutes before start.
- Race is open to any participant of any age and must be capable to do the entire distance. Younger riders should be accompanied by an adult
- Cut off time to cover the distance is 12h30. (5 hours to do the distance)
- The event will take place irrespective of conditions unless considered unsafe by organisers or damage can be done to private property due to excessive rain. In which case, race entry fees will not be refunded.
- No cyclist may compete without wearing protective head gear.
- Obey traffic rules, all roads are open to traffic and cyclists would be required to stop at intersections if required to do so. Not all intersections are marshalled.
- Route markers will indicate the route and marshals will only be on duty at busy / strategic intersections.
- Cyclists must stop if so instructed by a marshal.
- Participants must ensure that they are familiar with the route in full.
- Participants must ride within the demarcated areas along the route and not take short cuts across grass areas on the single track sections
- Participants must keep to the left hand side of the road, especially along the gravel roads towards the turn around point as riders will be coming from the opposite direction.

- Only Mountain Bicycles may be used. Tandem Mountain Bikes welcome. Only Male - Female combination allowed.
- No littering of any kind along the route, especially on private farm area.
- Participants must complete the race on their own strength.
- Each rider must collect a token at the turn around point and hand in at the finish to prove that the entire distance has been done.
- No vehicle may follow the riders. This is for safety reasons and to prevent excessive dust along the gravel roads.
- Pick up vehicle will circulate route to assist and pick up any stranded riders.
- First aid and medical assistance will be available on route and at the finish.
- Water will be available at the turn around point.
- Decisions made by time keepers and officials will be final.
- Prize Giving will take place at the finish 30 minutes after the third placed lady has finished. (Estimated time 11h30)
- Prize winners must collect their prizes in person.

Maximum number of entries for event will be limited to 150 riders

OnLine Entries are Closed and there is only 11 entries available at registration on Saturday. These will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

OnLine entries only captures your details and enters you into the race
Payment must be made via electronic transfer (preferred method) or cash at registration
Closing date for OnLine entries is Thursday 25 August 2011 at 21h00 or when 150 have been received
Late Entries will only be allowed on Saturday 27 August 2011 at Registration if the maximum number of entries via the OnLine system has not been reached.
